Making an Impact With Just $1

by Donna on October 13, 2010

Yes, it is possible to make an impact in someone’s life with just ONE dollar!

I woke up this morning to read on Twitter that Heather aka @Sprittibee is only $255 away from raising enough money to get to The Relevant Conference (which I might add is only 8 days away!)

Let’s back up for a minute … here’s a little background:

I’ve always gone to a big church (Like 1000 plus members). When I was 23 I felt called to go into YWAM and travel to Australia for 6 months. IU needed to raise a significant amount of money. After about 6 months of fundraising I had only raised about $300! I was discouraged.

One day at church I looked around at all of the people sitting there and thought to myself “if everyone were to simply give $1-2 I would be so blessed and it would not even put a dent in their budgets”.  It’s easy to drop some change in the Salvation Army bucket at Christmas time but for some reason people find it difficult to give when it’s to support someone’s opportunity to travel or grow in their faith.

I’m about to share something that I dont’ think I’ve really shared before but one of the reasons that I left my old church, one of the reasons it was so easy for me to move to another state after returning from my time with YWAM was that I did not feel supported. I was disappointed, let down and felt disconnected. I had gone to this church my entire life – it was a huge loss for me.

A part of my time in YWAM was an outreach phase, where we travel to another country with a team to minister and serve. I needed $1400 to go on this outreach, as did many of the other students. We had a time of prayer and giving for the financial needs of those students that didn’t have their funds raised for outreach. What happened next has forever changed my life… the 90 other young adults (that I had only known for a few months), within 10 minutes, gave me the $1400 that I needed for outreach. WOW!

I’m not sharing this now to have a pity party or to shake my finger and say “shame on you”; I know that God used the circumstances in my life to bring me to a wonderful place, to teach me to trust Him and most of all I learned this one BIG lesson.

God Provides! God Multiplies!

My challenge to you today – whether you know Heather or not is to give… yes, GIVE just ONE DOLLAR to help her get to The Relevant Conference!

Give $1! That’s all.

I’m hoping to prove a point here… that giving a small amount CAN and WILL add up!

Will you join me?

Will you give a little pocket change to bless someone you might not even know?

Little gifts can make a BIG IMPACT!

You have such a big heart girl! Who wouldn’t want to give to that! I know how you feel. I’ve moved churches because of that too!

I so. love. you. :) THANK YOU to all who have donated. I’m finding out that DC hotels are not as cheap as I planned, so leaving without my full budget was kind of scary. Now I’m closer than I ever dreamed I could have gotten – and partly because of people like you who just took the time to care for someone else… even if they don’t know them personally IRL.

I pray that you are blessed tenfold!
